OktoberfestMunich, Germany
One of our most favourite events is the Oktoberfest, and it's not just for the beer It is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair) held in Munich, Germany from mid-September to the first weekend of October, attracting more than 6 million people from around the world to celebrate the Bavarian culture.
What started as a celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese's wedding back in 1810, Oktoberfest over the years turned into a glorious festival which now witnesses about 6 million people. Held on Theresienwiese - named after Princess Therese, Oktoberfest opens with a parade of Landlords and Breweries followed by the tapping of the first Oktoberfest Beer barrel. Apart from beer, you are sure to enjoy the Oktoberfest via tents with local and gourmet cuisine, funfair full of different rides and chicken dancing.
Jazz FestivalNew Orleans, The USA
The New Orleans' Jazz & Heritage Festival is home to the celebration of music and culture of New Orleans. This festival celebrates every (music) style associated with the city likeBlues, R&B, Gospel, Zydeco, Afro-Caribbean etc. This festival witnesses more than half a million attendees every year. But the Jazz Festival is more than just a musical week.
With local music as the hero of this 10-day festival, food also plays a role of a supporting character as it can leave a person satisfied even if he has not heard a single musical note. The Jazz Festival serves a loaded cuisine from all of the USA which guarantees the feeling of stuffed because there's an entire city worth eating your way through.
La Tomatina FestivalBuñol, Spain
La Tomatina is a tomato throwing festival which initially was a brawl in 1945. The last Wednesday of August witnessed a fight between some young boys and one of the parade participants who fell out due to the boys' energy. Picking tomatoes from the nearest stall, the youngsters started hitting the man and next year on the same last Wednesday of August, the boys brought their own tomatoes and started the throwing ceremony. This happened for many subsequent years and with little success, the event continued to grow year after year reaching a ludicrous size.
In Buñol near Valencia, La Tomatina is held every year on the last Wednesday of August. The tomato fight last only a couple of hours, but the partying starts much in advance.
Rio CarnivalRio de Janeiro, The USA
Rio de Janeiro's Carnival Celebration is undoubtedly the planet's most ostentatious, and mind-blowing spectaclewhich unites millions of Brazilians and visitors. 2 million visitors flock in Brazil's most exciting city and enjoy four days of partying. The party takes places every 40 days before Easter (April) and commemorates the closing of the hot Brazilian summer.
The Carnival hosts nearly 600 street parties (blocos) which are electrifying, pre-lent mega celebrations. The heart of Carnival is samba, a ritual dance with its roots in the slave trade. Rio is home to over 100 samba schools each preparing to acquire a place in the Special Group of Rio Carnival; which parade through the Sambadrome, so load yourself with energy as these parades are 12-hour long and a must for once in a lifetime experience.
Mardi GrasNew Orleans, The USA
New Orleans between comes alive to celebrate Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) - A carnival that takes place on the Tuesday before the Ash Wednesday. The city becomes obsessed with eating, costuming, bead-tossing and parading and it all intensifies as the 1st day of lent nears.
The major attraction of Mardi Gras is the theme based parades and costumed riders. The themes vary from history, legends, mythology and even literature. When parading, the costumed riders toss gifts like stuffed toys, necklaces made of beads to the onlookers. New Orleans is also home to Mardi Gras Masquerade Balls and Carnival food. This carnival's aim is to enjoy life's excesses before lent so one can spot Creole, Cajun dishes and King Cake - a purple, green, gold oval pastry with a sugar icing. Each cake contains a small plastic baby, and the person who finds the baby is to buy the next king cake.
Bonnaroo Music & Arts FestivalManchester, Tennessee
Every year the city of Manchester, USA relishes to music and arts for four days. The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is celebrated from the second Thursday of June. The Great Stage Park in Manchester witnesses a massive music event from noon till 03:00 am and beyond. This festival features live music such as indie rock, classic rock, hip-hop, jazz, folk etc.
Every year about 80,000+ visitors mark their attendance and enjoy the live music and art. The festival has seen major performances by Eminem, Beyonce, Jay Z, etc. Other than live music, one can dance all night at the Silent Disco, unwind with the Comedy acts, watch films and paint the Graffiti wall during the event.
The World Sacred Spirit FestivalJodhpur, India
The World Sacred Spirit Festival is a 4-day musical eventof classical harmonies from many parts of the planet. Hosted in and around Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur in February every year, this festival features artists like Ariana Vafadari with Haroun Teboul from Iran, Madan Gopal Singh- Chaaryaar from India, Zainab Afilal from Morroco etc.
If one really wishes to escape the hustle, they must hear theSufi tunes which take people on a spiritual journey and aids them on an enlightenment quest. Such is the aura of the World Sacred Spirit Festival that ranks it at the very top of all Sufi festivals around the world.
Global Citizen FestivalWorldwide
Global Citizen arranges music events and festivals for social causes and action. This entertaining festival is a witness to talents like Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Afrojack, A. R. Rahmanand many more. Along with creating a night to remember, Global Citizen's motive is to set sufferers free.
With causes like eradication of Polio, Global Citizen also concentrates on aiding for Earth, Tuberculosis, Malaria, AIDS and even ending poverty. It has a total of 130 commitments, financial aids from leaders and communities valued at over $30 billion that will impact at least 1 billion lives.
Comic-ConWorldwide
Comic-Con, a comic book convention allows comic book fans to meet the creators of comic arts. Comic fans dress as their favourite comic character from Harry Potter to Superman, Wonder Woman to Disney princesses. This event can pass as a 2 day Halloween party where many exhibit custom comic merchandise for sale and host VR activities for fans
Comic-Con in the recent years started featuring pop culture and entertainment elements across multiple genres like horror, animation, fantasy novels etc. What began as a small event in New York in 1964, comic con spread quickly, giving an opportunity for fans to meet the creators of various comic books, series, movies etc.
Loy Krathong & Yee Peng Lantern FestivalsChiang Mai, Thailand
Loy Krathong and Yee Peng are two festivals that fall on the same day and thus becomes one of the most visually fascinating celebrations in the world. In Thailand, Loy Krathong is celebrated to express gratitude to the Goddess of water by releasing small decorative floats into the Ping river with candles placed in them. Whereas Yee Peng is celebrated for welcoming good luck with lanterns that are heated by a fuel disk and released into the sky.
These festivals are celebrated for 3 days at the start of November and Chiang Mai becomes the busiest and radiant for the whole week. Along with witnessing the sky and water on fire, the city and the tourists also onlook activities like the lantern procession contest, handmade Krathong contest and the opening ceremony with a grand Krathong procession.
